Nightclub Gossip Party: Are some new parties on the horizon?
Anyone who knows me knows that I'm constantly screaming for something NEW NEW NEW!!! I moved to New York for the glitz, the glamor, the hot parties! I've know for almost as long as I've been alive that I'd make the move from Dixie to the Big Apple, and I'm very vocal that I want my expectations met.
I want trend setting fashion, I want a loud sexy crowd, and I want unique new parties.. so of course, I want to be the first to tell you about some new events I've heard about for fall!
I want to start with a big sigh of relief! I told you on Thursday that Avalon was closed because they owed some back taxes. I've been informed that the pad locks are off the doors. One thing that will never change is that Avalon (formerly known as Limelight) will also bring back memories for all of the "old school" partiers. I truly believe that partying in an old church is something that everyone should experience at least once. If you're like me, you were a bit relieved to hear that Spirit was closed so that John Blair, Beto Sutter and Alan Picus could move their Sunday night soirée back to Avalon where it belongs!
Have you ever seen the gay flick titled Trick? Its the age old story of guy meets guy, but they have no where to hook-up. A cute little couple flutters across the city trying to find a place to get off. No, its not the best story line;but TORI SPELLING is one of the stars so its definitely worth seeing. I have a point, so I'll make it: it's set in New York City and the main character hits the club scene right after work. He goes to his favorite little spot and gets an early start to a night long party. We don't really do that hear as much as we should! From what I hear, that's the new plan for Sunday evenings in Manhattan. I'm told we're gonna want to start early before heading to Avalon starting in October. I've stumbled across this hot little kitschy joint a few blocks up from Avalon called Porky's. It reminds me of something you'd see while on Spring Break at the beach... the DJ booth is trailer... do I need to say more? The owners there tell me that soon they'll open their doors on Sunday night starting early so you can party all night long. They'll have an open bar, those huge fish bowl drinks and a confetti thrower. I love confetti!! Anyway, it sounds like true New York City fun; and its definitely something you can't find anywhere else! I'm very excited, and I'll do what I can to make sure all of my readers are free!! You know how it is...
I'm still loving the Tuesday night party at Boysroom too, by the way. It has some crazy energy that I haven't seen anywhere else, and its free with 2-for-1 drinks... so you really have nothing to lose. I love the Nintendo on the big screen, and I challenge you all to a competitive game of Super Mario Brothers!! This week we're wrapping fashion week with the guys from Colby CO models. They tell me they're bringing the twister board, so come by an lets see what happens.
If free isn't good for you, then you can pay to get in on Thursday as DREW and what's left of his Detention party join JON JON BATTLES' party this Thursday. I'm not sure what Jon Jon gets out of this, because from what I've seen his party was just fine without a new promoter... and a cover. A part of me had hoped Drew would create something new; but he's been in a constant battle since he lost most of his staff, patrons and former business partner, ALAN PICUS earlier this year. Alan left Detention to form his own Thursday night mega party at Splash. Drew's party has suffered since.
There's also a lot of gossip going around about what could happen on Saturdays. We thought John Blair was going to abandon Roxy for Avalon on Saturdays, but I doubt that will happen since he's moved his Sunday party there. Maybe things have settled down over at Roxy and his highly successful dance party can stay at the venue that made it famous. Heaven Saturdays is plugging a "Rebirth" to take place on Sat. Sept. 30th. I host a weekly show there, and they won't even give me details about what they're doing. Tonight I heard they were ripping out that 1970s stage on the first floor and replacing it with something more creative and petite. PEPPER MASHAY headlines the "Rebirth" to perform her hit club song "Dive in the Pool." So lets go on the 30th and see what a little face lift can do! The Bank has pretty much tanked, and Mr. Blacks has been left in the dark. Both of those parties had great starts, but they seem to have fizzled out.
I want to see more creativity. I love it that 49 Grove opened their doors and let us throw a gay party there on Wednesdays. Its rare that you find a VIP straight club that will offer no cover and an open vodka bar for an hour. Its a great place for a night cap if you hit happy hour and an even better place to start if you're going all night long.
I have to also have to give you some names to look for... I say that because I respect their style, and I feel like they offer fresh and creative options to the New York nightlife. I also hope you will all try out some of gaysocialites.blog's parties listed on this site. We are trying to create a variety of parties, each much different from the other! So, here's my hot list. Anything with names tagged to it should be pretty hot and innovative: Mistress Formika Jones, Steve Sidewalk, Suzanne Barcsh, John Blair, Alan Picus, Seth Gold, Mimi Imfurst, Nikki (of Nikki's Remix), Vito Fun... I'll probably add to this as I think of them!
Try the new parties, and I'll keep you informed as I hear more.
That's all the nightclub gossip I've got, but keep the party going until next time!!
