Kelly Clarkson's new album bombing?
Kelly Clarkson has definitely hit a bump in her career.
Maybe she should have listened to Clive Davis and "reworked" some of the songs on her new CD, My December.
Clarkson's album got beat out on the Billboard charts by Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter, Disney star Miley Cyrus.
The Disney project sold a whopping 326,000 units in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Clarkson’s embattled "My December" (RCA) opened at No. 2 with 291,000.
Clarkson's follow-up to Breakaway had higher first-week totals than that album did, but with all of the controversy surround Kelly's career right now - most don't expect chart topping singles from My December like we saw from Breakaway.
The controversy started with rumors that RCA (mainly Clive Davis) didn't like the "self-penned" songs and carried over to Clarkson's split with her manager and the cancellation of her summer tour due to poor ticket sales.

Um, if by "bombing" you mean her new new album improved over her previous album not only in debut sales but in rank, as well, with little to no radio play, then yes, I would say the album bombed.

i don't think Kelly's new album is bombing. No.2 is an awsome position. And Miley Cyrus, she has a show with Disney. That's not fair! She's not really a 'real' artist like Kelly. Kelly's real! She's a professional! My December rocks! I agree with Anonymous, people need to shut the hell up. Kelly is doing just fine.

Wow... why is it such a big deal? The only reason people say she is bombing is because her record label heads are retards! All of this negative attention! Maybe someone should have just shut up and promoted it like they are suppose to. Why do the labels treat their artists like livestock! Even a really bad album (AKA Justin Timberlake -- one line over and over again, every song is EXACTLY the same) can be hugely sucessful with the right marketing team! So maybe people should stop saying the album is bombing, I want to see you get out from behind your "critic mask" and sing like she does! Lets see you write an entire album and have it debut at number 2, even in the midst of all of this bull shit!

you guys are all dellusional if you think or say you much rather not hear Kelly's songs on the radio since they are too deep and full for them to be played on radio! omg seriously stop! for one this album did good because of all the established Fans gained from Breakaway Era. Breakaway sold less because her previous album was a moderate success, not a big but Breakaway was the CD that created her new fanbase. She has ruined her career now with these horrible, depressing, unlistanable, boring songs she penned! SHe's a great vocalist not a great songwriter.. she should leave that to the pros or the talented writers.. her songs lack engagment... she is so stupid and egotistical, i accept egotistical and striving for better, but if you dont have the raw talent, you should just stick to what you do best.. . and yes, she is getting fatter then ever or what? she's looking very sloppy!

This album has almost NO promotion...not one single played at my gym, not one banner or ad on MySpace, and not one poster wallpapered up in my urban hood. RCA is trying to punish Clarkson by sinking a disc that, I was surprised to find, has a slew of singles. They're cutting off their nose despite their faces, as a number 2 entry under these conditions is a huge slap in the face to Davis & friends.
Bomb? Please. Grow up.

this album definitely is her best work and most personal work to date, just because it didn't hit number one doesn't mean it's bombing it means someone else sold more records than her. i remember similar chit-chat about christina's "stripped."

I have really enjoyed the CD. It is full of heart felt emotion and the vocals are tremendous. I had much rather listen to music with meaning, and by someone who can actually sing rather than listening to a song about lip gloss (lil mama). What is that about! I really like Maroon 5, but their latest effort, in my opinion, is lacking to put it nicely. As for Justin Timberlake, I don't know how he keeps a career. He is ugly for one and can't sing for the other, and all his songs sound the same. I turn the radio off when I hear the above mentioned artists on the radio. At least Kelly's music is REAL! I can appreciate that and certainly identify with it. This girl apparently suffered alot of emotion distress over the past couple of years. I have been there as I am sure most of you have as well. Kelly is an amazing talent and I wish her much continued success. However, if she starts singing about lip gloss, I will not listen.

Ive only heard her current single 'Never Again', which I can say I enjoy hearing, but I was definitely surprised not to see her at the top of the Billboard album chart. Given the massive global success of the her previous album, I would have expected a near million copies first sales week (if it was gonna come from someone this year, I would have put money on her). It's a shame really. Hopefully the album won't sink without a trace.

Hmm...having the #1 album WORLDWIDE is considered bombing these days? I guess people don't realize that American record sales aren't the only ones. And since when is debuting at #2 a bad thing? Her last CD "Breakaway" debuted at #3 so this is BETTER than the last. Get your facts straight.

Either people enjoy bashing on others with talent and success or they are not sitting down to really listen to this album. To me, it's my favorite so far from Kelly. I seriously have listened to it more than two dozen times. I can relate to so many of the songs for my own reasons regardless if they are even linked to a bad break-up. Her voice is amazing throughout and the music is incredible how each song is unique and matches the lyrics so well. I think it's an absolute amazing effort on Kelly's part and the people who supported and worked with her on it. It most likely won't do as well as Breakaway because people aren't listening to the music. They're only copying and pasting one review into their own, and bashing on music that they haven't really listened to given all the back-ground noise that has been created against it and has engulfed it. just take a moment and LISTEN to it, and if Kelly isn't especially pleasing looking to you, then close your eyes and just LISTEN. I happen to think she's a very beautiful gal and can't understand how people think she is ugly or fat, but everyone wants to only look at Barbie and Ken, I suppose. Just put the cd in, close your eyes and the noise of the media and B.S. and listen, ok? Then write an honest review.

I usually don't comment on crap stories like this but you really need to realize that Kelly's hit album "Breakaway" sold about 250,000 copies its first week (which if you can do math means "My December" sold about 41,000 more copies). Your article is not that long, you should at least check your facts before you release it.

Uh-- many artists would kill to have their album debut at number 2 on the billboard 200. Breakaway reached number three on the billboard 200, so "My December" is doing a little better. "Never Again" reached number 8 on the charts-- better than many of the other songs by same calibre artists. I have the album, I don't like all of it, but there are some good songs on it. Don't count Kelly out so quickly. Besides, if you can't stick by her as an artist and singer-- who can you count on? Paris Hilton? Lindsay Lohan? Neither can sing well.
