Hillary Clinton, John McCain lead in national polls

If the national polls are right this might be how the November ballot is shaping up, Hillary Clinton against John McCain.

If you're still listening to polls, Democrat Hillary Clinton still leads nationally over both Barack Obama and John Edwards while Republican John McCain leads Mike Huckabee and Rudy Guiliani.

According to the latest USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, Clinton is now at 45%, Obama 33% and John Edwards 13%.

"It's going to be a very tight race," says Gary Jacobson of the University of California at San Diego.

Among Republicans, New Hampshire winner John McCain leads the field at 33%, followed by Iowa winner Mike Huckabee with 19% and former frontrunner Rudy Giuiliani in third with 13%.
