SHE WORKS HARD FOR.. AIR CONDITIONING? Why I needed a pill to get through the awards...

DEMANDA DISHES

By Demanda Dahling

Sunday night at Arena, where the Pill Awards were held, an employee forgot to turn on the air conditioning.  Or perhaps they were not aware the place was going to be filled with drag queens, trannies and pretty boys, all with caked-on makeup.  Or perhaps they did know and wanted to play a cruel joke.  Whatever the reason, I was melting five minutes into the event and not a happy camper.  So was Clover Honey, who ferociously fanned herself with a copy of Next Magazine while she interviewed VIPs for her Under the Pink Carpet television show.  "My dress is going to slide right off me," quipped comedian and author Robbyne Kaamil looking as if she just stepped out of a sauna.  "One whoosh and my girls are out!"  Too late.

Leaving puddles wherever I went, I nestled down next to Dina Marie, dripping with sweat but smiling nonetheless.  "I'm presenting the Sexy Pill award, but my name was somehow omitted from the list of nominees."

ADVENTURES IN CLUBLAND

by King Ralphy

For a little bit over a year now I have been working in the nightlife industry. I'm often asked how I got so far, so fast; and while I'd like to say its a lot of hard work - my first adventure will explain how King Ralphy really came to be.

My strategy... I didn't have one.  I got a job working in the marketing department at a straight nightclub despite the fact that I studied fashion marketing, but a kid's gotta eat - ya know?

What I didn't, however, expect was the adventure ahead.  Up to that point, I had never really gone to any gay clubs.  For me, I went out for dance music and that generally meant just underground raves.

When I found out that my new nightclub marketing gig also included working with the insanely popular "Hot Mess" party, I cringed a little in the beginning but quickly fell in love.  Before I knew it, "Hot Mess" crumbled.  It might sound like bad news, but I got a great new gig hosting an amazing gay party with the likes of Jason Preston and 12 Pack.

So if I had to define it... my strategy has been to only hit the hottest parties, have fun and make sure everyone else is having the time of their lives too. My marketing job then started to seem secondary as the best parties in the city started paying me to host and promote their events.  The next thing you know, I've landed an amazing job doing marketing with Grammy award winning DJ Peter Rauhofer at Star 69 records.

After the break, you can come along on my Adventures in Clubland and see what went down in my life last week.

Demanda Dahling dishes on New York's gay nightlife: including Susanne Barstch, Rose McGowan and Celso

DEMANDA DISHES

by Demanda Dahling

My New Years resolutions were all in place and set.. until I broke them five minutes after the ball dropped by feeling my cocktails a bit too much and falling asleep in front of Deryck Todd mid-conversation at the Rated-X Panty Party.  We had been chatting for a while and I was completely feeling his vibe.  Not only was this boy dreamy--even all decked out as his alter-ego--but could hold an intelligent conversation.  I was heels over heads in love, to say the very least.  Suddenly, before either you and I knew it, I chimed in with a slurring "Oh absolutely love!  Now I'm sorry, but.. um.. do you mind repeating exactly what you said.. the music was too loud."  Nearly twenty minutes had gone by and not only did I pass out, I was snoring.  It was at this point I realized it was going to be a forgettably unforgettable year in my life.  Pull up a seat my sweets, pour yourself a cocktail, light a cigarette if so inclined--lord knows I am--and come join the Demanda Dahling fantasy.
