gaysocialites.blog summer campaign takes jab at site's own staff!

SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION

promo_spoof_charles.jpg

The gaysocialites.blog summer campaign debuted this week in Odyessy Magazine, and as you can tell - we're not taking it all too seriously.

The first ad in the series takes a stab at me, even though I'm the boss.  That's the complete advertisement above. Our promotions department pulled quotes from several different media outlets all quoting on my abilities, looks or lack-thereof.

It is important that our visitors understand that we can laugh at ourselves just as much as we can laugh about everyone else!

Wynter Gordon performing live in Manhattan this weekend

Regular readers, friends and fellow socialites know I fell in love with a David Guetta song last summer ("When Love Takes Over" featuring Kelly Rowland), and I might do the same this summer.

Check out Wynter Gordon's "Dirty Talk" featuring David Guetta!

I know you've heard "Dirty Talk" if you've been clubbing in Manhattan.  Now, here's your chance to see Wynter perform it live.

On Saturday night at Rush in Manhattan, Wynter Gordon will perform "Dirty Talk" as a part of the weekly Drama Saturday's party with BoiParty.blog and DJ Steve Sidewalk.  Check out the Facebook invite for more information!

Listen to Countess Luann's "Chic, C'est la Vie" here:

Ever since we shared the taste of Countess Luann's "Chic, C'est la Vie" from her live performance on "Watch What Happens" everyone has been asking if we have the full version.

Here it is, the debut of Countess Luann's second single "Chic, C'est la Vie":

</.center>

I'll admit that I kinda like "Chic, C'est la Vie".  Maybe Countess Luann is going to give Kim Zolciak a run for her "Real Housewives" singing-money!

Countess Luann performs her second single live [video]

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT...

On last Thursday's episode of "Watch What Happens Live" on Bravo, Countess Luann deLesseps performed her upcoming single "Chic, C'est la Vie".

Countess Luann told host Andy Cohen that the song wasn't finished yet, and that the performance in this video above is just a taste of her second track off her upcoming album.

I actually like it.  I think it would sound fierce on a loud speaker at 2am while the dance floor is bumpin' and the lights are going into over time.  It would also make a good fashion week track.  I'm not a huge fan of the Countess, but you gotta give credit where credit is due.

I heard... gossip about recording artists Dina Marie, Kim Zolciak and Countess Luann

I HEARD...

i_heard_dmd.gif

I HEARD...  Dina Marie has joined the team at Manhattan's newly gay, Elevate NYC.   Dina says she'll be producing a series of weekly parties for members of the transgendered community (and those whole admire them) as well as a monthly event that she's a little more tight lipped about.  If you remember her Circus and Blow Pop parties from last year, then you know what this nightlife-personality-turned-recording-artist is capable of pulling out of her weave!  Let's just say girl knows how to party.

I also HEARD... some of Dina Marie's singles that will be dropping later this year, and it looks like her parties aren't the only hits she's producing!  If you know Dina, you know you can expect a lot from any venture she undergoes.  Her debut album is no different.  Dina has been in the studio for the first few months of the year and even attended the Winter Music Conference in Miami to get the buzz started.  Get ready, because Dina Marie's tracks are going to blow your socks off!

I also HEARD... everyone's favorite train wreck, Kim Zolciak of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, has been talking lots of smack about her New York counterpart - Countess Luanna deLesseps after she ventured into Zolciak's territory and recorded her own song! "I don't like it," Kim has repetitively told anyone who will listen when referring to Luann's first single. "I admire what she's doing though," Zolciak added. Luann doesn't seem to care saying that people who don't like the song don't have to download it from iTunes.  The Countess evidently also has a record deal with Ultra Records while Zolciak is evidently working on her second single due out later this year.

[Editor's Note: In last week's edition of "I HEARD...", Dave Beatty says I evidently heard something wrong; and he has asked us to fix it.  Beatty may be out at Rush, but he evidently still owns his shares in the club while a deal is being brokered between he and the primary owners.]

So You Wanna Be A DJ? Part 1 – Giving Back

MUSIC MONDAY

Hi to all you fabulous superstars!!

My name is Charissa, but I am probably better known as DJRAP.

Now before you think I play hip hop, I got stuck with this name. Back in the day (way way back), I was the first DJ to ever drop hip hop beats under house tracks and the name stuck. I was also the first girl in the world of electronica to dj, produce, own a label, (I now own 2 PROPA TALENT and IMPROPA TALENT) sign a major deal with SONY and most importantly get paid the same as the boys and play in arena where chicks were not allowed and viewed mainly as eye candy.

You could say I shattered that old glass ceiling my darlings. So I set up this blog for all of you in language you all could understand.

'So you wanna be a dj" is a guide to what you need to learn, what it's really like and how to handle yourself in the this profession you have chosen. Of course this is just an opinion and they are like assholes everybody has one but I do hope this helps you if this is your dream.

Good luck!!!!!

I am with you every step of the way and if you need more you can alway go to www.djrap.blog, there's all types of music, videos and downloads!

Ciao LUV &BASS
DJRAPxo

You can check out DJRAP's first "So You Wanna Be a DJ" after the break.  She's publish a new column every Monday as a part of our Music Monday series.

Interesting Bonnaroo 2010 line-up announcement (or lack there of) with financing options

MUSIC

If you're looking for a rundown of groups committed to the Bonnaroo 2010 line-up. then it might take a while.  That's because Bonnaroo is leaving it up to each individual performer to make the announcement on their own.

Bands like Weezer, Flaming Lips, and The Dave Matthews Band started announcing Tuesday that they will be performing 2010 festival.  For the rest of the list, you're on your own.   From someone who splits their career as a marketing adviser, I think this is a horrible move.  From what I understand though, there is a cult-like following for Bonnaroo.  That probably means many of the festival goers would by tickets even if they didn't know who was on the line-up before they arrive.

If you aren't familiar with Bonnaroo, its a Woodstock-eque series of concerts held from June 10-13, 2010 on a 700-acre farm near my homeland in Manchester, Tennessee.

Tickets are on sale now, and they're even offering a payment plan in hard times.  A limited number of general admission tickets are available at $234.50 plus fees. If you're looking at airline prices, you'll probably need to fly into either Chattanooga or Nashville as Manchester is located between the two cities.

Peter Rauhofer takes over M2 on Christmas weekend [video]

SOCIAL SCOOP

On Saturday night, Star 69 duo Peter Rauhofer and Offer Nissim took over M2 (the former Crobar space) and meshed the gays and the straights together for one night of maddness.

Here is some video of the passing of the torch as Rauhofer took over for Nissim.

You know I love a good intro, and there's nothing like Ra-Ra-Rauhofer! The screams at the sound of Peter's intro say it all. That's the moment everyone had been waiting for all night long! You'd never know it was 5am! Only in New York, and only for Rauhofer

What was the song of the year in 2009?

CHARLES ON...

At the end of each year, I go around asking DJ, musicians, radio personalities and nightlife professionals one question: "what was the song of the year?"

This year was no different, and the responses for 2009 were somewhat consistent to four song across the board from just about everyone I asked.  That's why I'm doing something a little different this year.

Kim Zolciak performs "Tardy for the Party" at Splash in NYC [video]:

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Earlier this month, Kim Zolciak of Real Housewives of Atlanta fame performed her debut single, "Tardy for the Party" at Splash.  Here's video of Kim's entire performance in case you missed it.

Zolciak's performance basically shut down BoiParty.blog's Campus Thursday party, but no one seems to be complaining.  Promoters say there were 2,500 people there to watch Zolciak's performance, and I wouldn't argue too much. The place was packed!

Zolciak is not the best live performer (to say the least), but you can tell that someone coached her. She mumbled her song over a backing track and hid in the darkness when she forgot the words. She also stayed away from the media section when she was mumbling and only came to our side of the stage when she wasn't expected to be singing.

Kim even spilled the beans in front of the primarily gay crowd that she might be switching teams.  Rumor has it Zolciak has gotten really close with lesbian DJ, Tracy Young.  Can you say big mama?

Adam Lambert tones it down for "The View" [video]

American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert appeared on The View this morning in a pre-recorded interview and performance.

During his interview, Lambert basically said the same ole' same ole'.  While he didn't seem apologetic for his behavior during this AMA performance that led to the cancellation of all live performances on ABC, Lambert had the women of The View agreeing that there should be bigger things for people to worry about.

The co-hosts seemed to want to some fire during Lambert's performance, but they got a watered down version of "Whataya Want From Me":

Lambert also admitted that while he is a sexual person, this isn't how he wanted to get started with his professional career.

Did Adam Lambert really get peed on by a trick in public at the Box in NYC?

NIGHTLIFE RUMOR CONTROL

Rumors are flying after Adam Lambert showed up at risque East Village sleeze bar, The Box, over the weekend.  The story evidently unfolded on Twitter when cross-dressing performer, Trick, tweeted that he had urinated on the American Idol runner-up.

I guess that takes care of our rumor.  A cross-dresser named Trick did actually piss on Adam Lambert at The Box in Manhattan.

According to eye-witnesses, Lambert's initial reaction wasn't good.  However, he evidently loosened up after someone told him it was all a gag.

Music Monday: Adam Lambert's "For Your Entertainment" [video]

MUSIC MONDAY

Here it is!  This is Adam Lambert's debut music video "For Your Entertainment".  Everyone is talking about Lambert these days, but not because his album is great.  Adam is making headlines over a controversial performance at the American Music Awards.

On Friday, he showed up on The CBS Early Show where he talked about being a sexual person and performed two songs.

Lambert loves to over-sing songs doesn't he?!  It wasn't so bad on American Idol, but as a professional it's starting to get annoying.

Taylor Swift beats superstars like Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga for AMA Artist of the Year

The American Music Awards delivered some surprises on Sunday night including Taylor Swift's win over such big names as Michael Jackson and Lady Gaga for Artist of the Year.

I'm a huge Taylor Swift fan, so you know I'm tickled to death.  However, I think even young Taylor knew that she shouldn't have beat the late-Michael Jackson for the AMA's top honor.

Swift accepted the award live from London.  Much to my surprise, she forgot to thank Kanye West.  Taylor wasn't on our radar until Kanye ruined her Video Music Award acceptance speech to declare that Beyonce's "Single Ladies" video the best of all time.

That was the best publicity Swift could have gotten.  It really introduced her music to a lot of people (including myself!)

It was a big night for the country singers in all around categories.  The little known group, Gloriana, also beat Lady Gaga for the AMA Breakthrough Artist award.  Coincidentally, Gloriana opened for Taylor Swift during her tour this year.

Swift was nominated for six AMA awards, the only person who got more nods this year was Micaheal Jackson.  She took home several AMA's including favorite female artist in the pop/rock and country categories, favorite adult-contemporary artist and favorite country album.

Gloriana beats Lady Gaga for AMA Breakthrough Artist Award

In shocking music news,  the country group Gloriana beat international sensation Lady Gaga taking home the American Music Award for Breakthrough Artist.  Who the hell is Gloriana?

An unpredictable award since it is chosen by votes from fans, most media outlets (even myself) seemed certain that Gaga would snag this award after having an amazingly successful year.

Evidently the fans don't agree.  Additionally, there are a lot more people listening to country music than I thought!

When accepting the honor during the American Music Awards on Sunday, Gloriana thanked their fans and Taylor Swift for choosing them to tour with her.

Lady Gaga addresses homophobia in music industry [video]

In a interview with Fuse, Lady Gaga lashes out against musicians who promote homophobia.

Gaga told Fuse [by way of Towleroad]: "I feel even just in the music industry that there's very public misogynistic and homophobic behavior. When I hear one of the most famous rappers in the world say something homophobic on the radio, I want people to yell at him. I don't have to say who because they know who they are. It's not just hip-hop, it's everywhere. It's wrong. I'm not trying to create and generate more hatred in the world...I just want to generate awareness. It's always wrong to hate but it's never wrong to love."

This episode of On the Record with Fuse airs Monday, November 23rd.  Check your local listings for show times.

Lady Gaga's "The Fame Monster"

Lady Gaga will re-release her debut album The Fame in three different versions. One of the 3 versions includes a picture book, while the other version is a double disc which will include the debut album. One version will be released with just the new tracks. Standard and Deluxe editions of The Fame Monster will be released on November 23, 2009. The collector's edition super-deluxe version will be released on December 15, 2009.

Gaga says: “In the midst of my creative journey composing 'The Fame Monster', there came an exciting revelation that this was in fact my sophomore album. I would not add, nor take away any songs from this EP, it is a complete conceptual and musical body of work that can stand on its own two feet. It doesn't need 'The Fame'."

"We may have an economy, but MUSIC HAS NO ECONOMY. I will release four or more singles from 'The Fame Monster', tour the world with The Monster Ball Tour, and most importantly I insist on honoring my fans with an affordable new album, an album that is as loyal to them, as they have been me."

"For those who do not have my debut album, there are a series of collectible double-disc editions that include both albums and artwork conceived by the Haus of Gaga in collaboration with our mentor Hedi Slimane. Hear the music, see the show, live and love yourself…"

I live for Gaga and cant wait to get copies of my own, now you all know what to send me for the holidays!

Music Mondays: "Walk on the Wildside" short directed by Stephane Sednaoui [video]

MUSIC MONDAYS

Warning: This video contains nudity and may be NSFW!

Call it a little dab of Shameless Self Promotion, but as we extend our Music Mondays to include more than just new music - I'm plugging this short film by Stephane Sednaoui set to the song "Walk on the Wildside" by Lou Reed.  Oh, and I'm also one of the stars.

For the New York socialites, this one is worth watching all the way through as you'll definitely see some familiar faces in addition to mine!

Stephane Sednaoui is one of the most brilliant video directors of our time having worked with Kylie Minogue, U2, Madonna, Red Hot Chili Peppers and more!  There was never a music video produced for Lou Reed's "Walk on the Wildside", so Stephane chose to take it to a whole new level with this short film.

It was an honor to work with Sednaoui on this venture, and I can't thank him enough for including me and giving me so much face time!

Oh and in case you're wondering, the nudity in the video is not mine. (You can breathe a collective sigh of relief.) I do, however, have an overdose at the end.  Sorry, didn't mean to give it away.

WORK! For Free!

Sliimy covers Britney Spears' "Womanizer" [video]

NEW MUSIC MONDAYS

This New Music Monday is actually a different twist on a previously recorded song. Eccentric recording artist, Sliimy, has covered Britney Spears' "Womanizer" and this is the video.  It's Sliimy's shot at a song that wasn't too impressive the first time around.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Sliimy, we'll he's unique (that's actually what Sliimy means, it's a French word).  He was the first person signed to Gossip Blogger Perez Hilton's music label, Perezcious Music.

We're always looking for interested choices for our "New Music Mondays", so if you come across anything impressive - send it our way!

CD Review: "Michael Feinstein and Cheyenne Jackson - The Power of Two"

by Jonathan Warman

The new duet CD by classic crooner Michael Feinstein and bodacious Broadway boy Cheyenne Jackson, “The Power Of Two,” opens with our two handsome, out fellas gushing over each other to the tune of Cy Coleman’s “I’m Nothing Without You.” They follow that up with “Me and My Shadow” made famous as a duet between Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr.

Despite how little they physically resemble Frank and Sammy, the comparison is oddly apt. Feinstein is, and Sinatra was, his time’s greatest popularizer of the Great American Songbook.  Jackson is, and Davis was, one of the great musical theatre showmen of his day as well as arguably one of the best vocalists. So, yes, like Sinatra and Davis, but oh, so much gayer.

Feinstein wrings every note out of “I’m Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter” and Jackson rattles the rafters with an open-throated “Don’t Get around Much Anymore.” But just as often they turn in all seriousness to gay subject matter. Michael solos on “The Time Has Come,” a moving ballad written by a gay songwriter in the aftermath of Stonewall. And later they have a gorgeously restrained romantic duet on “We Kiss in a Shadow.”

New Music Monday: Jacob Heal "If You Can (So Anyway)" [video]

NEW MUSIC MONDAY

This week's New Music Monday comes from up-and-coming recording artist, Jacob Heal.

Even though Heal's album hasn't dropped yet (and this music video isn't official- instead actually produced by New York film students), his popularity online and in the Northeast is growing rapidly.

His soothing voice coupled with his charming good looks make Jacob Heal easy to admire.  I can see the teen girls (and gays) lining up for hours to see this him live, because until you've felt like he's singing directly to you in person - you'll never truly appreciate his charm.

Some compare him to Michael Buble, some to John Mayer.  Others have said he might be the "male Celine Dion".  Regardless, you can guarantee that Jacob Heal is a voice you're going to love, a personality you're going to admire and name you'll hear a lot from here on out! Just remember where you heard him first!
